Mechanical Systems Engineer I
Job Description:

The Mechanical Systems Engineer’s primary responsibility is to evaluate and resolve problems encountered on the production line, repair station and supplier manufacturing that are beyond drawing and/ or manual limits. The Mechanical Systems Engineer will do so through the disposition of Non-Conformance Records (NCRs), Maintenance Discrepancy Records (MDRs) and Supplier Requests for Material Review Board (SRMRB) respectively.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Responsible for creating engineering instructions/dispositions to address nonconformances in Production (Part 21), the Repair Station (Part 145) and at MDHI suppliers.
  • Perform Material Review Board (MRB) function and provide corrective actions for all MDHI helicopter models in all phases of production to meet engineering design requirements.
  • Provide technical support to Operations personnel that includes, but is not limited to interpretation of engineering drawings, aircraft manuals, specifications, parts catalogs and Service Bulletins.
  • Initiate design and process changes as a liaison to Design Engineering (OEM) to correct design/ drawing errors, resolve complex/chronic manufacturing and modification problems and to improve the producibility of the aircraft.
  • Apply engineering principles to research technical, operational and quality issues that cannot be resolved by the customer and design interim and final engineering solutions.
  • Review production schedules, engineering specifications, engineering orders, drawings, maintenance manuals and related information to maintain current knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities in assigned area.
  • Communicate proactively with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Suppliers, Program and Design Engineering personnel as required to develop dispositions to nonconformances.

Job Requirements:

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of and the ability to define requirements, design, integrate, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical systems, installations, sub-assemblies and detail parts. These systems include but are not limited to electro-mechanical components, fuel systems, power-plant installation, mechanical/electro-mechanical flight controls, rotor systems, hydraulics, metallic and non-metallic primary and secondary structures.
  • Ability to solve technical issues of moderate complexity.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations and apply knowledge to projects as required.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, manufacturing and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply concepts, practices, and methods related to helicopter systems and installations in a design environment.
  • Knowledge of the initial (development) and follow-on (production) design processes.
  • Capability to collect, organize, synthesize and analyze data, summarize findings, quickly learn the application of aircraft system implementations and integrations; metallic and non-metallic structures; mechanisms, electro-mechanical components; various aircraft system troubleshooting techniques; on and off aircraft acceptance testing; configuration management; and FAA certification requirements.
  • Prior exposure in aircraft and/or aerospace engineering is desired.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint.
  • The ability to understand and follow instructions and the ability to concentrate are required.
  • The ability to get along with others or to be part of a team is required.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Access to Export Control Information.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree (B. S.) Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from four-year College or University and 0~2 years of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
