Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking an Staff Aerodynamic Engineer. This position is located in Roy, Utah and supports the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You’ll Get To Do.

As an Aerodynamic Staff Engineer on the Aero/Fluids team you will be responsible for supporting the Aero/Fluids functional homeroom manager in guiding the execution and ensuring quality of the Aero/Fluids teamwork products across Sentinel and Advanced Programs. You will be responsible for helping train more junior engineers and work with the team and external stakeholders to ensure all products meet quality and technical requirements.

Position Responsibilities Include:

• Apply extensive aerodynamic knowledge, skills and ability in pursuit of meeting contractual requirements. Strong emphasis on the development of tools, processes, and resources to translate raw aero data (CFD, experimental, flight test) into models, databases, simulations (e.g. 3/6 DOF), etc.

• Develop, validate, and refine aerodynamic models specifically for missile applications.

• Ensure the quality of Aero/Fluids team products meets technical rigor and IPT/deliverable standards.

• Identify and troubleshoot aerodynamic issues during design, testing, and operational phases, proposing viable solutions or improvements.

• Develop technical solutions to complex aerodynamic problems.

• Lay the framework for aerodynamic modeling for NG SDS Division.

• Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to team members.

• Collaborate closely with other relevant disciplines/IPTs, e.g. Flight Analysis, Structures, Propulsion, Integration and test, etc.

• Communicate effectively and clearly; present technical approaches and findings to customers, executive management, and other program stakeholders.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

You Will Bring These Qualifications:

• Staff Aerodynamic Engineer: 12 Years with Bachelors in Science; 10 Years with Masters; 8 Years with PhD.; or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree

• Active In Scope DoD Secret Security Clearance with a re-investigation within 6 years

• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

• Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner.

• 10 years of experience developing aerodynamic models, tools, databases using Matlab, Python, C++ or similar for integration into 3/6DOF simulations.

• 3 years’ experience with analytical aerodynamic design tools, e.g. Missile DATCOM or similar.

• Experience analyzing wind tunnel test data and flight test results to validate simulation outcomes and inform model adjustments.

• Demonstrated technical writing experience in both authoring and reviewing formal analysis documentation; strong ability to verbally communicate technical content to senior engineering leadership.

• Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

• Masters Degree in Aeronautical Engineering or related field.

• Demonstrated experience working with customers and senior leadership to ensure project success.

• Demonstrated experience working with Linux and Windows based HPCs for aero/fluids work.

• Involvement with the planning and execution of physical aerodynamics related testing applications such as wind tunnels or flight test validation including scheduling, test matrix and development of test items.

• Demonstrated experience leading a technical effort/team through an EMD program in compliance of program requirements.

• Experience in performing in an Agile environment and knowledge/understanding of JIRA.

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

• DoD Top Secret Clearance.

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
