The Senior Electro-Optics Engineer designs, develops, builds, and tests advanced photonic and laser-based systems supporting technologies such as free-space optical (FSO) communications, fiber optic communications, photonic integrated circuits, and optical sensing and imaging systems.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test laser and photonic-based systems and products
- Support technologies including:
- Free-Space Optical (FSO) communications
- Fiber optic communications
- Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs)
- Active and passive optical remote sensing and imaging
- Collaborate with device, hardware, and software engineering teams to develop integrated photonic systems
- Specify, select, and qualify active and passive optical components
- Develop and benchspan system performance models
- Develop and implement optical system test procedures
- Conduct laboratory measurements, system validation, and hardware testing
- Evaluate and select optical test equipment and instrumentation
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics, or related STEM field, plus 2+ years of job-related experience, OR Master’s degree with 6+ months of relevant experience
- Application of electrical and optical engineering principles
- Experience with optical communication systems, photonics, or electro-optical technologies
- Experience with optical laboratory testing, hardware integration, or hardware validation
- Experience with optical or communications test and measurement equipment
- Tools / Technical Skills:
- MATLAB
- Lumerical
- Zemax
- VPI Photonics
- Python
- C/C++
- LabVIEW
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with hardware prototyping and field testing
- Experience working in Agile development environments
