Position Overview

PDS Defense Inc. is seeking an experienced Special Access Structures Mechanic II to support complex aircraft modification, repair, and maintenance activities within a high-security environment. This role involves hands-on work with heavy aircraft structures, precise drilling and fastening, and resolving moderate to complex technical issues using engineering documentation and aircraft manuals. Candidates must demonstrate strong structural repair skills, technical proficiency, and the ability to work variable shifts based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform close-tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on critical support structures and fracture-critical areas.
  • Locate and drill blind holes for installation of new structural components.
  • Conduct sealing, shimming, painting, and structural preservation per standard repair processes.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, technical orders, schematics, and retrofit requirements to perform structural modifications and repairs.
  • Access and utilize computer-based systems for work instructions, engineering data, and training.
  • Use depot-level tooling, assemblies, and fixtures for structural repair and modification.
  • Troubleshoot and repair aircraft mechanical systems, sheet metal structures, and non-complex electrical systems.
  • Utilize aircraft-specific tools (e.g., torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, tensiometers, brakes, shears).
  • Submit online parts requests and discrepancy reports.
  • Provide technical guidance to lower-level technicians and occasionally lead small teams.
  • Operate forklifts, mobile cranes, and powered elevating equipment.
  • Maintain required certifications, licenses, and qualifications.
  • Support mission requirements with flexibility for changing shifts, weekends, holidays, and scheduled/unscheduled overtime.
Job Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb vertical ladders, work in confined spaces, and lift up to 35 lbs independently (occasional 2-person lifts >50 lbs).
  • Frequent standing, walking, reaching overhead, balancing on ladders or uneven surfaces.
  • Occasional climbing, crawling, squatting, bending/stooping, and operation of foot controls.
  • Ability to pass visual acuity and color perception tests.
  • Use of PPE (face, eye, ear, hand, and arm protection).
  • Ability to handle and dispose of hazardous materials.
  • Frequent exposure to elevated platforms, metals, and noise.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
  • Maintain all training certifications required for assignment.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  • 4+ years of on-aircraft heavy structures experience. Please clearly indicate on your resume your aircraft platform experience and number of years working heavy structures.
  • Demonstrated experience with close-tolerance drilling, reaming, removal, and installation on critical support structures (doublers, triplers, seat tracks, planks, stringers, etc.).
  • Ability to obtain customer approval for aircraft access, for which dual citizenship or prior citizenship of another country may preclude eligibility.
  • 4+ years working with non-porous metals (aluminum, titanium, stainless steel)
  • 4+ years interpreting schematics, specs, assembly drawings, and SOPs
  • 4+ years using structural hand tools (45°/90° drills, pancake adapters, countersink cages, hole finders, rivet guns)
  • Strong shop-math and precision-measurement skills
  • Proficiency with computer systems, aircraft applications, and basic office software
  • Ability to pass comprehensive 3rd-party background checks

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VIP / Executive Fleet aircraft or specialty aircraft interiors (within the last 10 years).
  • Experience with Depot Level or Heavy Structures maintenance.
  • Experience with Executive Fleet platforms.
  • FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant certification (preferred but not required).

  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all site-specific access and certifications.
