Mainframe Batch Operations Analyst

Job Description:

DPP is seeking a Mainframe Batch Operations Analyst for an opportunity in Columbia, SC.

Location: Partial onsite in Columbia, SC. Onsite is determined by schedule (3 days in office per week and as needed; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday onsite for both M-F and 4 on /4 off schedule)
Duration: 12 months, contract-to-hire, W2 position
Work authorization: Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust US security clearance.

Position description:

The Mainframe Batch Operations Analyst is responsible for monitoring, supporting, and troubleshooting mainframe batch job cycles within a highvolume enterprise environment.
This role ensures the successful and timely completion of batch workflows, identifies performance issues, and engages with Application Development and Technical Support teams when escalation is required.
The ideal candidate brings deep handson experience with JCL, batch operations, and job scheduling tools, along with strong communication and teamwork skills.
Note: this role is 100 mainframe-focused.

Required skills and technologies:

Strong proficiency in:
- JCL (Job Control Language)
- Batch mainframe operations
- Zeke job scheduling
- TSO/ISPF
Solid understanding of mainframe job flows, dependencies, and operational troubleshooting.
Knowledge of CPU performance considerations in batch processing.

Mainframe performance tuning concepts

Soft skills:

Strong communication skills — ability to clearly explain issues and coordinate with on-call App Dev and Tech Support resources.
Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively within an 8-person operations team.
High attention to detail, reliability, and consistency in production environments.

Minimum required work experience:

6 years of technical experience with systems analysis, design, and/or programming experience or other job related IT experience.

Examples of work:

Monitor daily batch job cycles to ensure on-time and successful completion.
Engage with App Dev and Tech Support teams for escalations, clarifications, and collaborative troubleshooting.
Monitor job performance, including CPU usage, long-running jobs, and resource contention.
Utilize Zeke (or similar scheduling tools) for batch job scheduling, monitoring, and workflow oversight.
Execute mainframe operational tasks using TSO and JCL.
Document incidents, resolutions, and workflow updates as needed.
Create and submit ServiceNow requests for operational tasks, changes, or support needs.
Participate as a member of an 8-person batch operations team, contributing to shared coverage and on-call rotations as applicable.

Required education/equivalencies:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other job-related degree;
OR, Associates degree in CS, IT, or other job-related degree plus 2 years of work-related experience;
OR, 4 years job-related work experience (total 10 years without a degree)
